Unique Entity Identifier Update

In December 2020, the DUNS number will no longer be the official identifier for doing business with the U.S. Government. Over the next 18 months the DUNS number will phase out, and a new unique Entity ID will be generated in the System for Award Management (SAM.gov) and will be the official identifier for doing business with the U.S. Government.

The New Process to get a Unique Entity ID:

Starting in December of 2020
-Go to SAM.gov to request an Entity ID and register your entity to do business with the U.S. Government
-To make any updates to entity legal business name and physical address associated with the Entity ID go to SAM.gov

Transition:

Phase 1 (Present-July 2019): DUNS number is the official identifier
Phase 2 (July 2019 – December 2020): DUNS number remains the official identifier.  GSA assigns SAM-generated Unique Entity ID to all SAM records.
Phase 3 (December 2020): SAM-generated Unique Entity ID is the official identifier. DUNS number retained for historical purposes.
